The Imagoworks Couples Follow-up Group:

Like many couples, you may experience a glow reminiscent of your early days together after your Imago Weekend. However, just as a garden needs regular maintenance and nourishing to flourish, that glow will not persist without continued care and attention to your relationship. We have found that one of the best ways to insure that you will integrate and practice all that you have learned is to connect with others who are committed to using the tools and principles of Imago to build conscious relationships.

IMAGOWORKS offers monthly continuing education and coaching groups for graduates of the Imago (Getting the Love You Want) Couples Workshop, led by Barbara Reichlin. If interested in joining a group, please contact Barbara at 713.660.9988 or email her for more information.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNED MAY 3rd, 2008:

1. Practice a "pretend" two-way dialogue between Carla and Bill. Here are some guidelines:

  • Give each character at least one chance to send.
  • Before beginning, check in with your "selves" and see which part of you will be doing the dialogue!
  • When switching roles (from being the receiver to being the new sender), be careful to "hold" what you have just been mirroring and validating from your partner's world while now sending your reality. Example" "What you said really makes sense, and, at the same time, my own reality is that . . . ."
  • Avoid the use of absolutes. Say what you feel, but soften it with qualifiesrs such as: "it feels like", or "I know you don't intend this, but to me it seems like . . ."

End with Bill sending a BCR*, (which means he will send at least twice.)

  • Rather than using Bill's BCR, create a new one of your own.
  • In addition, Bill should include something he is willing to do to insure that his need will be met by Carla. If Bill can't come up with anything, or if he just wants Carla's input, he can ask Carla to send about what he might do that would increase the liklihood of her being able to grant his request.

2. Read The Decision which I will email you. Again, write, or at least think about, your answer to each of the questions posed.

BCR: Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time-limited.

Have fun! See you next time! Barbara

AGENDA FOR SATURDAY, MAY 3:

  • Couple Check-In
  • Read, discuss and roll play "The Decision". Continue review and practice of two-way Dialogue sending.
